FNP: Bacon Cheeseburger.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza. Oh, my goodness. This has to be one of my all-time, hands-down, no-doubt-about-it, make-this-right-now, favorite favorite FAVORITE pizzas we have ever had. Ever.

It’s a pizza topped with everything you would get on a juicy bacon cheeseburger: hamburger, mushrooms, sauteed onions, crispy salty pieces of bacon, and a combination of cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Is your stomach growling yet?? Mine growls every time I think of this pizza. I could eat a slice of this and die a happy woman.

We loved this *so* much that we made it two nights in a row, but since I didn’t have any more ground beef, we used Italian sausage instead — so it was like a bacon sausage burger!! Mmmmmm. You’ll probably be saying to yourself “hmm, this is quite a departure from Amy’s typically more vegetable-focused pizzas.” Yes, that’s true…variety makes life spicy, no? As you can tell, for someone who claims to not eat meat all that often, I really do love any kind of pork product. This meat was from Kingbird Farm, which is local to us and raises grass-fed, organic pigs, chicken and cows. One bite of the sausage or the bacon and you can tell the difference: the bacon just tastes bacon-ier, the sausage more pork-y, and the flavors are so rich and flavorful.

Anyway, I could wax poetic about this bacon and sausage for days. The original pizza — with browned ground beef — was truly one of my favorites and a definite keeper in our pizza rotation.

One last note; as we’re traveling for a wedding over Memorial weekend, if you leave a comment, I won’t be able to get back to you until next week. In the meantime, enjoy the long weekend (perhaps you’d like to make bacon cheeseburger pizza??)

Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza

1 ball pizza dough (about 1 lb)
1/2 cup tomato or pizza sauce (I like Muir Glen Organic pizza sauce)
1/4 lb ground beef, browned until cooked through
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
a handful of mushrooms, thinly sliced
two medium onions, sliced and sauteed in a little olive oil until nicely browned
2-3 strips bacon, cut into small pieces

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees, preferably with a baking stone inside. Stretch out your ball of pizza dough and lay it out on a pizza peel or baking sheet that’s been generously dusted with cornmeal. Use a pastry brush (or just dab it with your fingers) to lightly coat just the outer edge of the pizza crust with olive oil.

Spread a thin layer of the pizza sauce over the dough. Add the cheeses, then the hamburger and the mushrooms and sauteed onions. Top with the bacon.

Bake for about 8-10 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and lightly browned.

That definitely looks and sounds like it’s well worth a try. Usually I’m like you and don’t go for meat based pizzas, but I do love a good burger and I love pizza so it sounds like a great combination.

Yum! A place here in St. Louis makes a similar pizza, with pickles and yellow mustard on it too. It is surprisingly wonderful.

I recently made a bacon cheeseburger pizza – I like the sound of your tomato topping for this one and may give it a try (plus, the mushrooms are calling out to me!)

try mixing pizza sauce, catsup and mustard together for the sauce. I uise mostly catsup, about 1/4 as much pizza sauce, and about 1/8 as much mustard……try to you liking……..I think it adds to the whole “cheeseburger” taste of the pizza. Oh, and this is one of my families very favorites.

I forgot to mention that I also add some diced pickle slices……again, adding to the “cheesburger” taste profile! Try these little twists…………they really do make a difference, i believe!
